The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his team opted for a unique setup. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session. Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the wall. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the last turn on to the main straight. Hamilton finished practice in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second off Piastri's best. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
